New hard dirve will not load windows

I Had windows xp pro x64 installed on a previous hard drive. I bought a 120
gig maxtor hard drive and used MaxBlast 4, which came with it to transfer
windows on to the drive. I switched the drive to primary master but the
computer would not boot. It would go through all of the bios loading screens
and then just show a single flashing dash mark. I restarted my computer with
the windows xp pro x64 cd in it and it began booting from the cd. It said it
was checking the hardware and then the screen went blank. I tried several
times with the same result. The hard drive is the only new hardware since
last time I installed this os.

You likely have to rebuild the MBR. Reboot with your Windows XP CD and at
the first screen select the option to Repair with the Recovery Console. At
the command prompt type the following and press the Enter key

FIXMBR

Then finished remove the XP CD and type EXIT and press the Enter key to
restart the computer.
