New email alters

I can't get the new email alters on the desktop? The only thing I get to see
is the "envelope" in the righthand side of the taskbar. I want it to show new
email alters as a pop-up on the right bottom corner of the desktop.

That popup usually only shows when a mail stays in the Inbox folder (not
moved by rules elsewhere). Also, which version of Outlook are you using?

I'm using Outlook 2007. The other thing I forgot to mention is that my email
account is the university account which I've configured with my Outlook,
which seems to be in a "new Inbox folder". As I was searching for the
solution for my query, I think the desktop notification is only for "default
Inbox folder".

Is there any possibility of making my "new Inbox folder" as a default inbox
folder? If not, then the question remains that how should new email
notification works in this senario?
