New e-mail notification sounds doesn't play

I do not get a sound when new e-mail arrives in my inbox. I have new mail
notification set to ding.wav and it works when I select play, but does not
work when new e-mails arrives. This started when I upgraded from office 2003
to office 2007. I am using xp home.

If you have rules that move mail to subfolders on arrival, the sound will not play. Additionally, it will play for new mail only every 5 minutes, not for every mail received.

Hi Milly,
Thanks for replying to my post, I am using hotmail through my outlook.
I'm not sure if that is considered a subfolder or not. Is this something new?
I had it set up the same way for outlook 2003 and got a ding for every new
email, I get no sound at all from new e-mails, not even every 5 minutes, also
i do not have any rules set up.

is being much nicer to me and making me cry less.

But I did find this along my travels:

I have had the same problem since I began using Outlook 2007 with Vista. I
have elected HTTP format for e-mail - could that be the cause? It works
intermittently, but mostly not.
