new compters can't find DNS

Mike

I went to intall an XP machine and it will not join the domain because it
cannot find the domain server. It sees them in network neighborhood. I put
the primary and backup dns servers in tcp. But because no one can log on to
the network from these new machines, they have no rights. As long as the
machines were on the network before this flaw came into play they work. I
have two servers S1 and S2. S1 is the primary DNS and S2 is the backup.
Here are there ipconfig /all, netdiags, and FRSdiags. Thanks a bunch if
someone can tell me some answers or point me to where I can get the answers.

I see the masd.org domain ok. But where is the "masd" suffix comming from?

Looks like there could be a problem with your domain registry entry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

What is the entry for Domain and NV Domain?

They should both be masd.org.

See the Netdiag, it sees the computer hostname as "s1.masd" instead of
"s1.masd.org" as the ipconfig /all shows.

masd was put into the Advanced tcp/ip dns settings in the DNS suffix for
this connection box. Instead of masd.org. Will it be ok to just leave this
field blank? And do you think this could be the cause of all this? Thanks

I went to intall an XP machine and it will not join the domain because it
cannot find the domain server. It sees them in network neighborhood. I put
the primary and backup dns servers in tcp. But because no one can log on to
the network from these new machines, they have no rights. As long as the
machines were on the network before this flaw came into play they work. I
have two servers S1 and S2. S1 is the primary DNS and S2 is the backup.
Here are there ipconfig /all, netdiags, and FRSdiags. Thanks a bunch if
someone can tell me some answers or point me to where I can get the answers.

Hello,

Yes it is ok to leave it blank. MASD is most likely the netdios name of
your domain. The DNS suffix should always include the dot and root level
domain, ex. %domain%.com, %domain%.net, %domain%.local, and not the netbios
name.

After you remove this suffix from your DC's you wll need to re-register
them. You can do this with the following list of commands from a command
prompt.

Ipconfig /flushDNS
Ipconfig /registerDNS
Net Stop Netlogon
Net Start Netlogon

OK, this is good. Do you have a zone named masd with out the .org?
If you do you should delete that zone Win2kSP4 and later, WinXP and Win2k3
can't register in the zone or find it anyway and remove the masd from the
connection suffix.
Run netdiag /fix then run netdiag /v to see if that clears things up. for
some reason netdiag was seeing the computer name as s1.masd and s2.masd that
needs to be corrected.

I went to intall an XP machine and it will not join the domain because it
cannot find the domain server. It sees them in network neighborhood. I put
the primary and backup dns servers in tcp. But because no one can log on to
the network from these new machines, they have no rights. As long as the
machines were on the network before this flaw came into play they work. I
have two servers S1 and S2. S1 is the primary DNS and S2 is the backup.
Here are there ipconfig /all, netdiags, and FRSdiags. Thanks a bunch if
someone can tell me some answers or point me to where I can get the answers.
