New activation key?

I've had Vista since last May, but for awhile I allowed a friend to borrow my
laptop. And while in their possession they happened to delete some important
files causing my laptop to not run as efficiently. So I put back in the disk
that came with the computer to reformat all the drives and hopefully fixing
the error. But now I have an activation key problem, I put back in the key
from the bottom of the computer and it won't accept it. I didn't notice the
need for it until the pop up of having a none genuine version. Hoping I
didn't completely screw everything up.

If it says it is already in use, it's normal. You already used it, and if
you try to activate again, it says it's in use. What you can do is select
"Activate by Phone" and call Microsoft to get activated. Just takes a couple
minutes and they will get you back up and running.
