new 175GB drive- only see 132GB

Running XP Home Ed, SP1 with 48 lba update and proper
atapi.sys and updated Promise Ultra TX2 bios update (own
ATA card supplied with HD) and drivers for WD 175G drive.
Run on new (6mths old) HP Pavilion 753n

WD are at a loss as regards why it doesn't work.

Administrator Utils, Computer Mngn, Data Storage only sees
it as an unallocated disk drive with 128GB.

What do I need to do?

Are you using NTFS or FAT32? What procedure did you use to
set the new disk up, did you clone it or do clean installs
of everything?

You need to install XP service pack 1 (see the thread "Hard Drive Size
Problem" just below.)

Lal already said that SP 1 was installed.

Lal may need to install the registry patch to enable large hard drive
support.

I used XP's Computer management, Storage, Disk
Management, Format and made it NTFS. Since then I deleted
it (as primary partition).
It is now Disk1 Basic 128.00GB Online and Unallocated.
But I need it to be around the 165-175GB+ range?

Is there another utility I can use to unformat/reformat it
outside XP?

REgistry patch LBA already done for 48-bit
Western Digital says that there startup message indicates
that the BIOS on the adapter card sees all the hard drive
(as it indicates 167MB) so the problem is with XP?

What next?
Is there any other util I can run that will create
seperate partitions (outside of XP) and then when I come
back to XP it will see it?

Your System BIOS may not support anything Larger than 137GB even with LBA
enabled. Try looking the website for the MOBO manufacturer for a BIOS
upgrade.

Andy,
That worked thanks.

Removing the drive from the Promise IDE Adapater card and
putting directly off the motherboard worked great.
So much for Promise and Western Digitals support.
