Netzero account receiving poor quality image attachments

M

Mike Brearley

Someone has asked me to look into this and I'm totally stumped (and refuse
to pay Netzero for a support call).

Both her and her husband have Windows XP systems. He's using Earthlink and
she's on NetZero. A family member sends both of them an e-mail with a
picture attached and her husband receives a decent quality image (60k or so)
and she receives a low quality image (13k).

Any ideas as to what's going on? It's the same email sent to both of them
at the same time. Is NetZero doing something to the attachment?)

Turn off the NetZero accelerator.

Is there software that goes with the NetZero service? Does it have any
settings in its menus that relate to downloading images?

To elaborate on Frank's response, some ISP's of offer accelerators to give you up to 5
times the speed or normal dial-up. They can't actually push the data through the modem
any faster. So what they do is make it appear 5 times faster by giving you only 1/5th the
data. In the case of images, they substitute a low resolution image for the high
resolution image.

Apparently. Has your acquaintance asked NetZero? And why does this
couple feel the need to pay for two seaparate ISPs? They should drop
NetZero and both use the obviously better Earthlink service.

Earthlink doesn't allow you to be logged on twice and they both need to
access the internet at the same time. I'm not sure what Earthlink charges
for a secondary account and I had already informed them to check into it.

As far as asking NetZero, I had already answered that when I said, "and
refuse to pay NetZero for a support call." When they called for help, they
were told they needed to provide a credit card number in order to receive
any assistance.

Mike,
You can use a router with EarthLink, to share the service between PC's.

Do a Google search: earthlink+router

It's a dial-up account that they are using and they won't necessarily be in
the same place when connecting. They both work out of their home, but also
need to go to clients and connect up there as well. A router won't help
much with that.
