I hate computers.

I gotta problem. I installed Windows XP SP2 yesterday - it
looks very pretty. Lots of security things and whatnot. I
then noticed a baloon pop up telling me my Norton anti-
virus stuff doesn't work, and advised me to fully
uninstall it and try again.

I did this (I had to go into the registry and delete a
load of keys - as per Symantec's instructions)

Two things now... Since delving into the registry (which I
hate to do anyway) I can't connect to the Internet. I've
got a cable modem, plugged into my computer. I also have a
two-computer network. Since fiddling with the registry
instead of connecting to the web my Network Connections
box now constantly says "Acquiring Network Address". When
trying to delve into the settings I am greeted with the
message "RCP Server cannot be found" or something. I know
a little bit about networking, but not enough, it would
appear.

I don't need to format my computer, do I? Any ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT - Ooh, and the other thing is my computer reboots
whenever I try to install Norton again. Lovely.

Hello Pete !

The best, cheapest and quickest way to fix this problem
and get done within an hour:
- Boot to the WinXP CD
- Select Repair and follow other screen instructions.
- After it Reboots and when you get to the Desktop, go to
the Windows Update Site and download them again.

If you would like to correspond further, I have created a
temporary email address you can contact me at and I have
images that would show more details about how to do this:

I am having a similar problem, when I went to ipconfig /renew xp came back
with rpc server unavailable, got around it for now by assigning ip address
and gateway, but how do I fix this problem.
