I have two computers which I want to connect using a cable. At the moment I'm
using Ethernet connections for both to access the internet. How do I connect
both computers if the Ethernet sockets are being used?
Any advice please and please make it simple cos I'm old and thick.
Thanks

Usually, the typical home setup is a cable or DSL modem, a router, and two
or more P/Cs. In some cases, the router or a switch is part of the modem.
If this is your case, you would usually setup both computers to have shared
folders/subfolders, and possibly a printer. It's not a good idea to share
the whole "C" drives.

The router may need to have some settings added or changed. These settings
are router make and model dependent.
The firewall software may also have to have settings changed on each P/C.
User settings for shared resources can be a puzzle if you have not setup for
user & password on each machine.
Ethernet protocols may also be an issue to get things working.

I wish I had a simple foolproof way to tell you how to do this.
Right now, there are too many unknowns concerning your system to hazard a
guess, and try to give you a useful answer in "25 words or less".

Can you "ping" one P/C from the other?

This URL may be of some use to you.
