Just created a network at the office with two computers running XP Home
Edition and a linksys router. One computer has been there for some time and
the other is new. Both computers connect to the network fine, and I can
access anything from on my new computer from my old one, but when trying to
access the old computer from the new one, I always get a login screen
prompting for a password. How do I disable this login screen ?

Activate the Guest account for network access, and give it a null password, on
both computers.

Run the Network Setup Wizard (in Start > All Programs > Accessories >
Communications) on the old computer. If the Wizard detects the
router's shared Internet connection, tell the Wizard to use that
connection. Otherwise, tell the Wizard that the computer connects to
the Internet through a residential gateway. Then try accessing the
old computer from the new one again.

If that doesn't solve the problem, make sure that the Guest account is
enabled for network access and that it doesn't have a password. On
the old computer:

1. Open a command prompt window (in Start > All Programs >
Accessories).

2. Type this command, then press Enter:

net user guest /active:yes

3. Type this command, then press Enter:

control userpasswords2

4. Click Guest.

5. Click Reset Password.

6. Click OK without entering a new password.
