I have 2 home computers that I networked until one had to be sent away for
repair; a new M/B was installed.

When I received the repaired laptop and tried to network with my desktop, I
cannot do it.

On the PC I can see the workgroup but cannot access it, I get the following
message when I try to acess the laptop from the desktop: "Computer name' is
not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator ( who is me presumably). - and
The network path was not found.

On the laptop I get the message when I try to view workgroup computers: My
network group is not available. Contact the administrator. - and -
The list of servers for this group is currently not available.

I can see the shared documents on both computers but on the laptop I cannot
see the networked computers. I have no access between computers for anything.

My system is windows XP Home. I am using the network setup that comes with
XP. It worked before the repair. I suspect I am making an obvious mistake
or omission but cannot figure what it is.

It may be related to this administrator thing.

Anyone have any ideas.

Alan

I am assumeing the following:
both computers are on the same workgroup
You are attempting this through a user with admin

Sounds like the problem I had when I tried to connect a XP
and a Windows 2000 computer on a home network. I solved it
by on the XP creating a home network and at the end
creating a diskett for the other computers on the network.
I ran the net config from the diskett on the W2000 and I
was connected, worked great. Asked for the workgroup and
everything. XP is not like W2000 where you can create a
network. YOU HAVE to USE network wizard in XP.

Try it wont hurt.

"YOU HAVE to USE network wizard in XP" not true ....30+ computers on a
network and have not used it yet
