i am trying to set up a network at home with two laptops (one is xp & other is '98). Using the XP computer as the host i've gone through to set it up, however it says that i have to create a disk or load the XP cd onto the '98 computer and do an "other install" of the networking software on the '98 computer. Since i don't have floppy disk capabilities i was trying to use the XP cd into the '98 computer. But, it wants to "INSTALL" XP over '98 and i can't find where you just install the networking info needed to start sharing files. Assistance would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi Mark,

You should be able to access the Network Wizard from the Windows XP CD by
doing the following.

Insert Windows XP CD into the Win98 computer.
When the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP" screen comes up, select Perform
additonal tasks
Select "Set up a home or small office network"
Continue through the wizard.

This should allow you to setup the Windows 98 computer with the correct
settings.

Hope this helps!

Thx,
Nico

Nico,

Thanks for the info. My only question is that when i put the XP cd into the computer, i don't get the "Welcome to Windows" window for some reason. It just wants to "initialize" and then start the xp download. How can i get the "welcome to windows" screen to come up without the other? Thanks again for your help Nico.

Mark,

Try the following and let me know what happens. (leave the CD in the drive)

Open My Computer, right click your CD drive and select Explore.
When it displays the CD contents, double Click Setup

Let me know if that brings up the screen for you.

Thx,
Nico
