i have xppro and xphome. they share a wireless internet connection. i
have tried to network these systems by using the network setup, but it
never works.

i have also a wired network at work, win98 pcs and one xppro. they are
conn. thru a router and share internet conn. the 98 machines network
fine, but when i try to set up the xp mach. it doesn't work. a matter
of fact, it's the same prob. as my home.

it's almost like the setup on xp never takes. i've check the wrkgrp
name, settings, etc. ...nothing.

Any suggestion?

You've got two possibly different problems described in one report, and not a
hella lot details for each.

To start, you need to check the list of items under Local Area Connection
Properties, on each computer. You only need the following items in the list:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler (optional)
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Then, make sure that NetBIOS Over TCP/IP is enabled on each computer. Local
Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP - Properties - Advanced - WINS - Enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

Next, provide ipconfig information for each computer.
1) Start - Run - "cmd".
2) Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command window.
3) Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!.
4) Open file c:\ipconfig.txt from Notepad.
5) Copy and paste entire contents of the file into your next post.
6) Identify operating system (by name, version, and Service Pack level) with
each ipconfig listing. Also indicate which network each computer is part of.
