Networking on Windows XP Home

S

Scott

I set up a workgroup of a few computers running Windows XP Pro and Home
Editions at home. One of computers can see all other computers but not
itself. Other computers also cannot see this computer. When I enable
Network Sharing and Security, below error message pops up.

Sharing
An error occurred while trying to share D. The server service is not
started. The shared resource was not created at this time.

Can someone advise me the possible causes and fixes to this issue.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

The server service is required, and as noted:

Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this
computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If
this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail
to start.

Open your Services Management interface by: Start > Run > services.msc (OK)

Then make sure the Server Service is started. If not, right click and start
the service. Best bet is to open the properties of the Server Service and
select "Automatic" as a startup option.
