I have just built a new system using windows xp 64 bit. Prior to putting windows in I installed a debian linux system. This installed no problem. I then partitioned my disk and installed windows xp 64 bit system, leaving enough room on my harddrive to install debian. On installing debian I noticed that the dhcp network would not work or a static network. I still installed the linux and decided to remove the cmos battery. I could then go into linux and the network worked fine. I then re-booted and went into windows partition and this worked fine also. Tried to go back into linux and the static and dhcp network didnt work again. I removed the battery and both then worked.
Can someone explain why this is happening. The motherboard I am using is GA-K8N51GMF-9.
Thanks for any help
Bill
Will also add after the battery was removed I ran ifconfig an got following results
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:85:C8:75:62

After I booted in windows and then went back into linux the ifconfig read
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:85:C8:75:62

The network address has altered. Does this help
Thanks again
