Network Unavailable After Wake From Standby

I recently purchased a new Asus P4S800D-E motherboard
with onboard Gigabit LAN. I connect to my DSL provider
through a router (all the service information is stored
on my router and Windows XP just detects the connection
on startup).

Everything works great except when my computer enters
Standby mode. When I resume, I notice a little
disconnect icon in the bottom right of my taskbar (the
two computers with a red X through it) and a message
saying the Local Area Connection is "unplugged." When I
enter the Device Manager, there is a yellow bang next to
my Network Adapter (Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet...).
To fix it, I simply have to disable and reenable the
device or just restart my computer.

Now, I've tried updating to the latest drivers,
uninstalling and reinstalling them like 5 times and even
unchecking "allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power" option in the device properties. Still, if I
enter Standby mode, it somehow "unplugs" my network
adapter and gives an error on the device.

Also, just as an aside. I have a 1394 connection that
I'm not using on the board and I actually see it
being "unplugged" sometime when I resume from standby.
However, there is never any error with the device in the
device manager and it is always present under my Network
Connections.

I tried calling ASUS tech support and basically they said
they never heard of any such problem before and that they
would exchange my motherboard if I want. The thing is,
they only replace motherboards with refurbished ones and
I'm not totally convinced that this is a hardware issue.
I would hate to trade my new motherboard for a
refurbished one to have the same problem.

Anyone ever have or heard of this problem? Any insight
into what is going on and maybe how to fix it would be
greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Kindest regards,

Saladin

You can disable the 1394 network connection to clean it up. No harm
done to the 1394 port itself which is still active. For the Lan
connection, uncheck the box (whereever it is, usually in the card
properties, power save mode) that allows the computer to turn off the
device to save power.

Having done that, and if it works, you might still see the red X in the
connection icon as I do, even if the connection has been restored.
Sometimes it refreshes the icon, sometimes it does not.

So do you have the exact same problem as I do? I know
that unchecking the box makes NO difference in my
situation. I have to disable and reenable the device.
However, when I reenable the device everything works
great and the icon with the red X goes away immediately.

I just figured something out. By disabling my 1394
connection in BIOS (not in just in Windows XP), then
everything works fine. My computer resumes from Standby
without any disconnections or errors to my LAN adapter in
the device manager! Does anyone know what is going on
here?
