Dear group, let me tell you the set-up i have. I have 2 computers, both
running XP Pro, they are both connected by Ethernet cable to a combined
Modem/Router to a DSL line. Both computers independently access the Internet.

With that set-up is it possible to have one computer access the other for
transfering files and sharing data?

the 2 should have the same workgroup name. enable users to connect to the 2
computers(you may want to use the network setup wizard). Share your files
through shared documents folders or enable sharing for individual files.

Also, each computer needs to have a real password
associated with the username that you sign on to each
computer with - a blank password will not work. Setup a
username on each system with the OTHER system's username
using the same password as on the original system.

A far more important reason to network the two computers is the ability to
use the XP Pro's Back up program to back yp your data to the opposite
computer. It is only a matter of time before a hard dirve fails!
