I have set up a network with my new desktop as host and a laptop as my only
client using a cross-wired cable (no hub). I can access the files on the
laptop from the desktop but the desktop does not show up under Network Places
on the laptop. When I click on a laptop folder from the desktop's Network
Places, the response is slow, but files transfer at a reasonable rate. I
also cannot access the internet from the laptop (the desktop is set up to
share its internet connection).
DESKTOP: Windows Media Centre SP 2
Norton Internet Security 2005
LAPTOP: Windows ME 4.90.3000
McAfee VirusScan Pro 7.03.6000
McAfee Firewall 4.02.6000.0
I set up the network on the laptop using a disk created on the desktop. The
laptop was formerly used as the host on another network. I gave the new
workgroup a new name which is consistent on the two computers. Network
places from the old network still show up on the laptop even though the old
computer is not connected.
Any suggestions?
