Network not available

I have seen this several times with XP. If a users computer goes to sleep
when they log back on they get the Network not available balloon in the
system tray. When you go into explorer you can see files on the network drive
but not all of them until you double click the icon and resync. Is there a
timeout setting in the registry that I can change. Similar to losing
connection to mapped drives??

Don't let the PCs go to sleep. Simply adjust the power settings to turn off
the monitor and hard drive after a specific period of time.

Sleep and Hibernation mode were intended to save battery life on notebooks,
and not designed for desktop use. Hence, the loss of your network
connectivity.

Branden,

Under Settings - Network Connections - Local Area Connection - Properties -
(Network Card) Configure - Power Management, make sure "Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power" is NOT checked.

This sequence of commands might help when coming out of sleep mode:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Also, if you are using wireless, you can possibly check the Advanced
settings of your wireless card and see if you can specify the SSID of
the network. It solved my problem.
