network interface performance issue

K

Kevin

Hi,

When I monitor the performance counter of my server, I noticed the
Network Interface of a NIC has "Output Queue Length" constantly very
large (4294935550). Suppose the queue length shoulbe be in single digit
if not 0. The other NIC use for cluster internal (100MB) is ok(queue
length is zero).

Is it because w2k performance monitor can't handle gigabit network? Or,
is there a better group I should post this question?

It's a 2CPU 4GB server with Compaq NC6136 Gigabit Server Adapter.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

It looks like this is a bogus counter and should be ignored. Look at the
following article;

146004 SNMP Counter Values Are Unreliable in SMP Computers
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=146004

This also applies to Perfmon counters. The issue seems to be only on
multiprocessor computers.
