Network File Locking New NTFS Drive

We've got XP Home SP2 and a Nikon Coolpix2500 digital camera that conntect
via usb.

Ordinarily when the camera is connected and turned to 'play' the sytem
detects it and launches software for downloading. Upon completion we have a
lower right tray icon for "Safely Remove Hardware."

Some weeks ago this icon stopped appearing and we had no choice but to
unplug the camera raw.

Last week we added a new hard drive which formatted to NTFS. We moved the
MyPictures folder onto this drive.

All old files and all folders old or new are accessible on this drive.
However all new camera files, while fully accessible on the host machine,
generate a "file locked" message on our other networked XP Home computer. The
host computer can write the files onto the other computer where permission is
given, and then the other computer can access the copies from its own disk.
But neither hot nor cold rebooting ever makes these newer files openable by
the other computer.

We upgraded the host computer from Win98 and took no special steps to create
an "administrative" user. The computer has only one user who seems to have
all rights to install, download etc.

However clicking on file properties in or out of Explore, there is no option
to "unlock" files. We uninstalled the camera software, did cold reboots,
reinstalled. The problem persists.

This does not happen with any other software, MS Office etc.

Pointers or ideas??

diskmgmt gave me the option to make partition active, which I did. But it
doesn't change anything. Everything on that drive was already accessible
except for new files stored by the camera. Even new files from other software
are network accessible.

Activating the partition did not make the 'locked' files accessible.

On the networked computer, the graphics software reports the files as locked
and advises to unlock them using Explore. Back on the host computer, Explore
does not give any locking or unlocking options, nor does it report the files
as locked in any way.

It seems to address collective issues, that is, if an entire folder or drive
cannot be accessed.

This problem is _very_ much more specific. We can access all the folders,
new and old. We can access all the old files, and all new files created by
all software--except for new camera files.

I tried downloading from the camera to the original C: drive which is still
a FAT drive, and those new files are readable. So it's only on the new NTFS
drive, and only the newest files created by the camera.
