network error

bob chronister

whenever i enable a nic in win2000 server, advanced
server and boot, i get a lsasse.exe exception 128 when i
log onto my network or simply boot with the nic present.
this happens with either a netgear or linksys 10/100 nic
and occurs with sp4. this is driving me nuts. please post
replies to my email address since this machine does not
see the internet so need to use a different machine. btw,
the system is an old supermicro dual processor box and
has worked fine until recently. don't think the issue is
a virus since my hard drives have been reformatted and
all other systems have norton anti-virus running on them.
also, problem occurs regardless of nic pci slot.

CAUSE: Sasser Worm.

CURE: Disconnect from the network/Internet. From a known-clean computer,
download the following patch:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9E-DA3F-43B9-A4F1-AF243B6168F3&displaylang=en

and download this tool:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7E-1B6B-4FC3-90D4-9FA42D14CC17&displaylang=en

Apply the Sasser patch, then run the cleaning tool to get rid of the active
infection, before connecting to the Internet/network again.

Finally, re-evaluate your patching habits and antivirus protection as both
are in need of attention.
