Network Diagnostics - Losing Net Connection

Guest

Brian A. I believe I have a similar problem to Ravix.
Whilst browsing trouble free I will loose conectivity. I use the Windows
diagnostic tool to determine the problem. The problem is fixed but occurs
every 15 mins or so. Your previous explanation to Ravix was a bit too tricky
to understand. Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thanks

Hi Prangie,
Could you please give more Info about your Operating system, how many
machines involved in the connection, are you using a Router/Modem.
What did you tired, what firewall you have installed on this problematic
machine (S).
I seen in the past, this can happen if you performed in the past incomplete
uninstall of protection software which left orphans behind causing this issue
to arise and losing connection.
Also bad Line, noise in the line can make you lose connection.
More info for anyone to be able to help.
HTH.

Hi Prangie,
Let's start with simple approaches:
= Do you use WEP or WPA encryption method for this Wireless?.
If you don't, I advise you to implement an encryption method to secure your
connection, preferably WPA more secure than WEP.

= Open the PC-Chillin firewall and allow full access to the DHCP to the
internet, it looks like when your computer try to renew the IP from the
Router the Firewall blocking it causing the Lose of connection, also the
Network Name (SSID) be allowed or trusted in the Firewall (make sure you
select the right Name not the Neighbour name?).

= Click start >> Control panel >> Network and Internet Connections >> Network
Connections >> Right click the wireless connection and select properties.
On the Wireless properties click on General tab then highlight the Internet
Protocol TCP/IP then click on properties, make sure the machine getting the
IP address Auto and the DNS Auto too!.
Click Advanced button click IP Settings Tab, make sure the DHCP Enabled and
Automatic metric check box is checked.

= Make sure the DHCP server/Host is enabled on the router Configuration
Page/interface by typing the IP address for the router on the Browser
address:
192.168.0.1
Here are steps see your settings, it will be different according to your
Location (country & ISP):
By typing the IP: 192.168.0.1 click [OK] or Hit Enter;
You will get Login into the router:
Before you can change any settings, you need to log in with a password. if

4 steps to set up your home wireless network

= Check the Power settings for the NIC, make sure the computer not
configured to turn this device when it is Idle for power saving feature by
going to Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters, then select your
Wireless NIC, click Properties then Power management/or settings and uncheck
this check box:
[ ] Allow computer to turn OFF this device for power saving or something
similar.

= If you are using the Manufacturer of the Wireless Card Utility to manage
the wireless Connection , then you need to turn the WZC OFF, as if both
running they can conflict and cause the lose of connection, or turn the
Manufacturer wireless Utility and use the WZC utility to manage the
connection:
<Quote from old Post::>
I recently had this issue with a client, how installed the Wireless
manufacturer Utility to manage the connection, while the Windows Zero
configuration (WZC) was ON.
Both the manufacturer and WZC were conflicting and making the Wireless lose
on start or after a while.
Try to Disable the WZC if you have the wireless Adapter/USB or whatever kind
of wireless manufacturer utility installed and Also be sure the Wireless
Utility for the manufacturer is Auto running in the servcies.
If you have just the windows Wireless utility to manage the wireless
connection then proceed:

Try this:
Open a Run Command and type in:
services.msc click [OK].
On the services control Panel scroll down to Windows Zero Wireless
configuration and Be sure the service to start Automatically instead of
manually.
Click Ok then close the services control panel window and Reboot and see if
the service will hold it's settings to Auto.
If not then try this Key in the Registry:
Open Run and type in:
regedit.exe click OK and on the Registry Editor Locate this key and change
the value in the Right Pane/window to (2):
[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC =

[ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000002 (2)

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc =

ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000004 (4)

Be worn, backup or write down the settings before and after the editing, if
any thing gone wrong you can restore back.
