network device not in IPCONFIG

I installed a wireless PC card in my laptop. I installed the drivers fine and
shows up in device manager with no issues. However it does not get detected
in IPCONFIG /ALL and therefore does not authenticate me to retrieve an IP. I
tried several different cards with the same issue. The LAN adapter does show
up. I already tried repairing the WINSOX, but that did not help. Any other
ideas would be helpfull

tried several cards ? suggest boot to safe mode ..remove ALL references to
NIC's , reboot and try again
(may have a ghost install messing things up)
 
Tried that, no luck. Lan adapter is fine and can be seen in Device manager
and in IPCONFIG
