Network Connections problem?

Hi,

No problem connecting to the internet...

I connect to the internet via cable modem, third party software firewall
and on-chip Nvidia, network controller.
the problem is the name of the connection, "Local Area Connection 7". The
previous connections I had, 1-6, I deleted but each time I make a new
connection it gets a new number. That kinda bothers me as it suggests I
have 7 local area connections where I only should have one. I have tried
uninstalling the network adaptor, disabling it in BIOS, running ipconfig
and all its goodies. Still, if I delete my current connection and create a
new one it will be Local Area Connection 8, rather than 1. If the problem
was just the name of the connection I could live with it but I think the
previous connections are saved somewhere in the registry or a folder and
may be causing unnecessary problems.

Check these Keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanworkstation\Linkage =

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\modem\Enum =

HTH.
