Network Connections missing

Hi! I was surfing the web when i had a virus alert from my avast antivirus, I
don't know really what happened, but when the virus was deleted, i restarted
the computer and when trying to access My PC, or My Computer (I don' know the
right translation from Spanish ), it took half a minute to show me the hard
and floppy disks. Not only that, when clicking on My network connections,
there where no network connections, even though I still can surf the web. I
scanned the computer twice, for more viruses, but no more where found.

It looks as if the removal of the virus removed or corrupted files that are
required to make those functions work.

I would try reinstalling XP over itself. The settings are retained.
