Network card to take precedence

Hello Everyone

Windows XP

I don't know whether this is the right group. But if it is, this is my
questions:

Is there a way to give the cable network interface priority over the
wireless interface? As things stand, if both the cable and the wireless cards
are connected, then the default seems to be to try the wireless network
first. I know how to disable the wireless card, but I would prefer if
possible to leave the wireless interface running.

Many thanks.

When more than one network connection is available, Windows uses the
one with the lowest metric value. By default, it automatically
assigns a metric value based on the network connection's rated speed:

To force Windows to use a specific network connection, assign a metric
value to each one, giving the lowest value to the desired connection:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the desired connection.
3. Click Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
4. Click Properties > Advanced.
5. Un-check "Automatic metric".
6. Enter a number between 1 and 9999 for the "Interface metric".
