Windows 2000 system, installed the driver for network card. pinging by
127.0.0.1. Assigned an IP but not accepting. Ipconfig gives network
cable unplugged. This is a single system, only for testing purpose.
Plz help me.

Is there a live network cable actually plugged in?

To work with the card disconnected, you can either disable
"media sense" for that adapter - this is a registry hack that
is documented in the Microsoft KB. Or plug it in to something.

Alternatively, you can simply install the Microsoft
"loopback" network adapter. This is a software-only network
driver that provides a connectionless, virtual network
adapter you can use for testing. Run control panel...add-new-hardware,
and select the hardware from the list after pnp detection, you'll see
it under vendor "Microsoft".
