network and router

i have just reformated pc , all updates are done, i pluged my router back in
and now my network is only sharing speed instead of splitting it, i had it
great b4 the format now am baffled, i have a 1mb connection and sped was
hitting 350kbs now can only get 120kbs, less when other pc on, i know i am
mising sumthing just cant think what, any help greatly appreciated

used optimizer but still the same, something isnt right as speed is still
shared between my pcs not split, router should give me 4x1mb conections it

Which router are you using? Most routers only share speed. Routers which
"split" speed probably need to be configured within the router. Something
about QoS, I think.

Also, if your connection is "1mb", you can't get 4x1mb out of the router.
At best, using some kind of traffic shaping, you can max each device at
250kb. Otherwise, you will see any one device saturate the bandwidth at the
expense of any other devices.
