How can I increase the network performance behind a UPnP IP NAT restricted firewall

Au Yong,

please explain this a little more. The network performance
behind a firewall should have nothing to do with the firewall.

i find that accesing the internet is slower with the firewall on(not network speed)

Au Yong,

this is definitely not normal. Firewalls and NAT routers do not
reduce performance. Something must be broken.

What kind of firewall is it? Can you try another one for a test?

Hans-Georg

i am using a built-in firewall in the broadband firewall router

Au Yong,

then my first guess has to be that the router is defective. Can
you try another for a test?

It also depends what protocol you are using to test. Protocols like active
FTP and H.323 have to be proxied and you may very well see a speed hit, but
of course you would see that with any NAT.
