NETWORK 2 BUSINESS COMPUTERS

Although I have been using computers for 20 years I am entering into a new
phase of computer use for my business.

My goal is to use my computer and have any changes or updates reflected on
my secretarys computer. In other words when my secretary turns on her
computer it will be a mirror image of my computer.

I have the 2 computer connected to a Linksys Router to share internet access
but that is a far as I have gotten. I need some advice about getting to the
next level (as I have described above) I would assume that I will need to
switch to a Server Based application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Brian

What you seek cannot be done. Computers cannot be mirrored over a network.
The best you will be able to accomplish is to set up a shared folder for
documents you both need to access and both of you use them from that folder.

Maybe I am not asking the right question. When an employee of a corporation
turns on their computer the next employee that turns on their computer will
see the same menu of information. Any changes to the company computer system
are made on the server rather than each computer being changed one at a time.
I was looking at Microsft Small Business Server Software thinking this might
be what I need. Any help is welcome.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,

So long as the information is centrally stored, then the information will be
up-to-date on both units. One unit will act as a server, the other a
client. The server will technically be a server and a client.

Simply expose a folder on the "server" and map a drive on the client (e.g.
Drive S:). On the server unit, you can also map a drive S: to itself so
both computers share the same configuation. You can do this with any
version of Microsoft XP/2000 no need to spend the money for a two user
configuration.

I suspect you're thinking about setting up a terminal server, where each PC
connects to a server and gets its settings and programs from the terminal
server. That's certainly possible but again, not in the scenario you
described earlier.

You are the 1st person that has put a name on what I am want to do. The
networking end of computing is new to me and I proabaly did not explain what
I wanted.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
