Have a new HP computer with Win XP Media Center operating system. Came with
Netscape Browser. When IE6 started, message said it was Internet Explorer
powered by Netscape. Question is, is there a clear advantage to keeping
Netscape on the computer? Don't like a lot of extra cr_p to sift through
when using the computer.

Thanks

It has nothing to do with "cr_p." Different people like different browsers,
and that's fine. You should use the one *you* prefer, whatever that is. Some
people prefer IE, otherss Netscape, others Firefox, etc. Personally I prefer
Maxthon, which is a shell that runs on top of IE.

You should make your own choice and not listen to *anyone* who tells you
that their favorite is the absolute best (whatever it is). The same is true
of word processors, financial software, etc.

Sorry to offend. My reference to cr_p was not aimed at the quality of the
software. But if there is a bunch of stuff on my computer that is of no use
to me it is cr_p I don't need. Having just moved to XP on a new machine
from a real old Win98SE machine I am cautious about causing myself problems.
Some things on new computers "MAY" have been placed there by the manufacture
for a purpose, thus the reason for my question. Fully agree with you
"different strokes for different folks".

You didn't offend. I'm not even a Netscape fan.

If you don't need it, then by all means get rid of it. But if I were you,
I'd make very sure I didn't want it first.

A program that is installed but that you don't run can not possibly cause
you any problems at all. Only running software can do that (true, some
programs may run without your realizing it). If you have Netscape installed
and don't use, it doesn't hurt you in the least, other than talking up a
timy amount of disk space.
