Netscape - again?

Can anybody explain why Nestscape has resurfaced, especially as it claims
to be based on Firefox?
I do understand that it sometimes uses the IE engine, bit Ffox's IEview
solves my need.
Where's the need - is it AOL - is it going to replace Ff and or Moz.
I just don't understand the need for it.

I think that the sole reason for this is just for AOL to have a cheap
source of advertising, as it bundles all sorts of AOL crap in distros
of Netscape.

But, that being said, Netscape really serves no purpose anymore, it has
actually become an anachronism with FF, Opera and all the RSS readers
out there now.

I use it to edit and/or create web pages.

You could switch to NVU or use Composer in the suite (seamonkey)...

But its own adblocker stops any ads!

I can't find any adblocker in NS 8.0.1, just the popup blocker.

(The popup blocker had to go to work the first time I ran the browser,
because one of the ads on the home page was trying to pop up a window.)

I've been using the netscape composer to build my simple pages, nothing
fance about them so it works ok for me.

The interface is bloated. Like having all sorts of tool bars at once in IE.

I think it's AOL keeping a brand going in case they ever fall out of bed
with Microsoft.

It's moot. The first new exploit of the Gecko engine after this release
will put it back in the bin of insecure web browsers. No way AOL will
fix it as fast as Firefox gets fixed.

Well now you mention it neither can I, but when I go to
http://www.majorgeeks.com/ the ad at the top just says "advertisement" and
I have yet to see an ad for AOL anywhwere.

I think the ad server that majorgeeks is using is having some trouble.
About half the time I reload their homepage, I see an ad, and half the
time it fails to load. When it does load, it is slow in coming. This
happens with Netscape, IE, and Opera.

Some of the features take you to AOL sites. E.g., the shopping search
uses instore.com. AIM is built into the sidebar. Other than those
things, I don't see any AOL stuff bundled in.
