Netbios resolution problems

Chris

I'm working on a computer setup where several computers are behind a
netgear wireless router WR614Gv4. Supposedly this setup had worked and
no settings were changed. However, all of a sudden, the XP machines are
refusing to share files. I have looked at this problem several times.

The sharing works IF you use the IP address. But if you use the netbios
name it doesn't. Sometimes the computers show up in each others'
"network neighborhood". But clicking on them results in a message that
states the computer was not found. Same thing happens if you type in \\
computer6 into explorer. Network path was not found. Also, trying to
bring up properties on a network printer results in error messages such
as the print spooler service may not be started. The oddest thing is
that a Macintosh running OS X Tiger is able to connect to the shares
perfectly fine. No problems at all.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions for how to diagnose/fix this.

Oh and here is the info from browstat:

C:\Program Files\Support Tools>browstat status

Status for domain DJOLAB on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{7A729FD4-74E1-
499B-B6
B5-15C7F20633C6}
Browsing is NOT active on domain.
Master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatus.

Chris,

Start by looking at "ipconfig /all" for each computer, in particular, Node Type.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/reading-ipconfig-and-diagnosing.html

And make sure that NetBT is explicitly Enabled on each computer, and with other
network components and services running.

If no solution yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Chris,

That's browstat from one computer. It may be more useful when compared with the
others.

And "ipconfig /all" too.

I'm going to go to another building to check on those computers now. I
don't have information from all of them for browse status at the moment.
I do remember one of them stating that it was the master browser and
that browsing was active. I'll check out your web page too and post
more later. Thanks.
