Netbios Capability in XP

I'm supporting a network for a non-profit organization that
unfortunatly still has print sharing based on Win/98 machines.

People are comming in with XP laptops, using the LAN to connect to the
internet and then asking to print. I know that XP as netbios drivers
in an extras folder, and I've installed them a couple of times.

My questions is about versions of the netbios files. Most people can't
find the XP CDs that came with the machine. Can I use any netbios
setup folder on any XP machine (home, pro, with or without SP1.)
Should I force a reapplication of SP1 after installing a random
netbios folder. ?

(I'm trying to get these people to buy a copy of w2k and install it on
their print server. That's the real solution.)

Thanks.

In XP, network properties > TC/IP Properties > Advanced > WINS > Enable
NetBios over TCP/IP and XP will browse the network.

When I've tried to set up netbios printing I've gotten a message
that says I have to install a .INF file from the VALUEADD (i recall) folder.

Is this a difference between XP/home and XP/pro or what options one of the OEM
computer manufacturers installs ?

I think that you mean NetBEUI, not NetBIOS. They're different things
that are both involved in Windows networking.

You can use the NetBEUI setup folder from any XP CD on any XP
computer, regardless of the service pack level.

Why is the network using NetBEUI in the first place? Like XP, Windows
98 can use TCP/IP for all networking functions.
