.Net v1.1 SP1 installs OK but does not show installed

Hello,
It appears people are having problems installing SP1 for .Net v1.1. My
experience with it follows:
1. XP Pro with SP2 and .Net v1.1 installed. Both SP2 and .Net v1.1 installed
off-line. System shows no problems.
2. .Net v1.1 SP1 downloaded from Microsoft Download center, at time of
download it was not available from Windows update, size approx. 10MB.
3. .net v1.1 SP1 installed without problem.
4. After installing checked per KB318785 for confirmation of install.
First check: Start\All programs\Administrative tools\Microsoft .Net
framework 1.1 configuration. Shows v1.1.4322.573 under Help\About shows
v1927.
Second check: The version of Mscorcfg.dll also shows as v1.1.4322.573.
Conclusion:
According to KB318785 I only have .Net v1.1 installed not SP1, yet if I try
to reinstall SP1 the computer says SP1 already installed. Would appreciate
any input.
Thanks.

Things get kinda hard to follow since you also have XP SP2...
I don't have XP SP2 but I do have the same version of .Net as you described.
When I go to the Windows Update site, SP1 for .Net shows and I can download it
and install it. Have you tried having the update site download and install it?

have just got this download via automatic downloads, now
when I boot up my machine, at the welcome screen, instead
of giving me the option of which user to log on as (with
little picture), it just goes straight into windows
any ideas as to why?

I have the same experience as you. If you want to be even more confused,
then check the version of files such as
:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorsec.dll and
:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorrc.dll and you will
probably discover that they have the appropriate 1.1 SP1 version numbers.
In fact, most of the .dlls dated July 15 2004 here have the Microsoft .NET
Framework Service Pack 1 (SP1) version number 1.1.4322.2032 *shrugs*

Thanks for the reply Howard,
At least its nice to know I'm not alone. I did notice some of the files in
the v1.1.4322 folder had the SP1 version number. So now I think its save to
assume the SP1 update itself is at fault or the person or persons that
created KB318785 are confused.
