Net use command and Error 85

S

Steve Maegdlin

I am having the problem described in Knowledge Base Article 810401 - "If
you use the net use command to create a drive mapping but the mapping
operation is interrupted before it completes, the drive letter may
become inaccessible. If you then try to map the same driver letter
again, you receive a "Local device name is already in use" error message."

Article provides patch that applies to Windows XP. Does anyone know of a
similar patch that might be available for Windows 2000 Server?
Already using the /delete and persistent:no parameters.

Any experience/insight/fix for with dealing with this problem would be
appreciated

Just an off-the-wall idea: run RegEdit, go to Current_User. Look under Network. If it's there, can you delete it? Does it now work?
