net time \\myserver /set /yes gives access denied
I'm running Win XP Pro SP 2 on both computers
I have disabled all firewalls on both computers
I have the same default login name and no password on both computers
In spite of this i get "Access is denied" error.
Anything else I could be doing wrong?

Joachim,

Other than "net time", do you have access between each computer and the other?

XP Pro, by default, requires a non-blank password for network access.

Well, ping works but I'm not sure I understood you right concerning "access"

If you had file sharing working, but couldn't get "net time" to work, then there
would be something weird. But if nothing works, then it could be either a
permissions setting, or a firewall or other security component. Or a
combination. Read this article with an open mind.

You'll have to get all of the issues resolved, before you can get access between
the computers. The problem is resolving everything, if there are multiple
problems.

You mention both computers are XP - are you part of a network/domain? - or
referring to one of the XPs as \\myserver . Time service requires access to
a "time server", usually within a domain - or access to an internet time
server such as "time.windows.com" (provided by Microsoft) or
"time.nist.gov".

No it doesn't. This is not related to the "time service".

This is a network command, it works across all platforms
from W '95 on up.

It just synchronizes the clock on the workstation you are
typing the command from to the clock on the remote workstation.

No internet access is required - it just sets the time, whether or not it's
correct.

It seems you needed to enable advanced file sharing too. That seemed to be
the problem in my case.
