Net Send Through IP?

Hey,
I can't send messages to my friends over the internet through net send. I
know it was only intended to be to send messages on your network, but I know
it is possible because those evil pop-up ads can do it. I am able to ping
their IP, but it says it can't find them. Anyone know the problem? I am
behind a router, they aren't...
 
Could you have the Messenger service disabled? Check Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services to see if it is running or not.
