Net framework 1.1 installation

Net framework 1.1 will not install. I receive a RegSvcs.exe Application
error--(The instruction at "0x00166d50" referenced memory at "0x00166d50".
The memory could not be "written" )

That might be an installer problem. Try removing it, get the
latest MS Installer, it's at version 3.1, and try installing
again. If you already have 3.1, it might still be worth an
uninstall/reinstall.

If you want any useful help, yhou'll need to give more info on
your system; there is nothing you said that's of any use to make
many judgements on.

I am running Windows XP pro with all the latest updates. The motherboard is a
MSI K8N Neo4 with an AMD Athion 64 3500 and 1meg of memory. the error occurs
with 0 seconds of time left and process is Registering System Enterprise dll.
What else do you need. I have tried updating installer to 3.1 but I did not
delete previous. I have also tried doing .Net Framework 1.1 install in Safe
mode but process aborts.

I need .Net Framework to run Nikon Capture NX

I have kept trying to install .net framework 1.1 with no luck untill today.
For no reason known to me it installed with no problems.
