Hi everyone!

In my software panel, I see the following installed :
- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service pack 1
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1

Since I'm always on the lookout to remove unneeded stuff from my laptop, and
since 3.0 is there, may I remove the other versions, or is it all part and
parcel of the same thing, and I'll be causing trouble by getting rid of part
of it?

Thanks in advance!

Carmen

Removing .NET Framwork versions 1.1 and 2.0 may cause problems with programs
installed on your computer. That's because programs are written to work with a
certain version. Best approach is to leave each version installed.

Good luck

The .NET is not like most other versions of software. The numbers are not
indicating the version of the Framework. Each are unique and you need each.

Why? Unless you are short of space, there's no advantage in doing so,
and it's a very risky thing to do, unless it's very clear that it's a
file you don't need (such as a word processing file you created
yourself). It's one of the leading causes of people getting themselves
into trouble and I recommend against it.

It's good that you asked, because this is a typical case where
removing any of these files is likely to get you into trouble.

One .net framework version does not replace another and if you run
applications that need a particular one, you need that one.

Even if you don't run such an application now, you might need one
soon, so I recommend that you keep them all.

It's a tiny amount of disk space. If you add it all together, it's
under 1GB. At today's disk prices, considering that you can buy a
160GB drive for under $50 US, that's about 30 cents worth.

And *that* is exactly why I asked.

Thanks!
