.Net Broadcast Viewer - not responding on XP shutdown

Wow, an actual XP issue that has no discussion about it on the web.

I have a brand new system, with a fresh XP home install. I run a
external router firewall with my system in stealth mode. Also I run
Zone Alarm.

On a regular basis when I try to shut down my computer I get a windows
pop-up telling me that .net broadcast viewer is not responding, and
asked me if I want to shut it down.

I had this happen before on my old system on occasion.

Anyway, I am positive I have no spyware or viruses/ malware on my
system since it is brand new.

Has anyone else had this message? if so what causes it? how can I fix
it?

Thanks

I am sorry, how is this supposed to help me?

I have looked at this before, and I have no process running in MSCONFIG,
SERVICES.MCS, or in my processes window with the name ".net broadcast
viewer" nor am i able to find a single reference to it anywhere on the Net.

The only thing I can think of, is I had to download a .net application to
make the new ATI Catalyst video drivers work properly. But I don't think
that is it.

any information as to what it is would be appreciated.

Clean boot and see if the message goes away. What happens in safe mode?

msconfig | startup
Disable startups as perhaps one of them is hanging, or causing another
program to hang on shutdown.

hello.

until literally this week the ati control centre has not worked, i.e. wont
load/not accessible. But this week it has suddenly started working. I have
tried for ages to get it to work, uninstalling and reinstalling .net
runtimes 1.1 and even 2.0, and the latest drivers. Now I have just noticed,
(not my main PC), that there is the .net broadcast viewer error on
closedown. not a major problem as windows closes it atomically. cant see any
windows update history that would link to this... very strange
