Tried to install the .net 2.0 framework (64 bit version) into XP Pro SP2.
Error shown was advpack.dll is incorrect version. This PC is auto updated and
secure.
Any ideas?

Seeing as Win XP Pro is a 32 bit OS the 64 bit will not work.

Why in the world are you trying to install the 64-bit version of anything on
a 32-bit OS? Install the proper 32-bit version instead.

Is it XP Pro 32 bit or 64 bit?

If you have to think about the answer, you almost certainly have 32-bit XP,
and you've downloaded the wrong version.

Believe it or not --- this was the recommendation form Intuit tech support
for QuickBooks Pro 2008 after reloading the .Net Framework 2.0 (32 bit)
several times and still having installation errors during the install. I used
several variations of the '.Net cleaners', including the one from MS, to no
avail. The 'offshore' support tech verified and e'd me a support doc that
suggested the 64 bit version. Having no other recourse at the time, and
having spent hours online in the 'knowledge base' with zero satisfaction, I
tried theirs. Still crap. A re-install of XP mat fix this, but only as a last
resort. Please advise

thank you for your time.
fixed the problem besides the 'offshore' support.
flushed the .Net and re-installed over QB Pro and it came alive.
I don't know where or how these support personnel are trained, but........
