.Net 1.1 framework install to removable media fails

Installing .net 1.1 Framework on a fresh installation of W2K Pro (SP4) the
install runs for a while and then request that the .Net Framework 1.1 disk be
installed. There is no disk involved - the install package is in a temp
directory. The OS is installed on a flash drive attached to the primary IDE
controller (and shows as removable media in the disk manager). I've tried a
complete format and reinstall with the same results.

A similar problem which may help diagnose what is going wrong - Windows
Update (the site) refuses to download updates. Updates are downloaded and
installed when AutoUpdate is involved or if I manually download an update,
but the Windows Update site will not download.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Possible solutions? Your help with this
would be greatly appreciated!

Telek,

Thanks. For now I've had to revert that machine to using a normal IDE drive
to get thigns working. Ultimately, I'd like to be albe to go back to the
flash drive since one of my goals in building it was to reduce power
requirements. If you hear of a solution, please let me know.

I did the following with .Net 2 betta 2 and it worked:
1.start the installation
2. Then it asks for disk find .msi file of the installation (don't remember
the name but it is unpacked to your temporary directory under some folder...)
and copy it to c:\ (that is the root of my removable media).
3. Press Ok.

Stupid thing somehow tries to find the .msi in the root of removable
media... Go figure...
This worked for me, hope it will work for you.
Best,
Evgeny.
