you have to buy the latest version of nero 7.8
that is theoretically compatible. uninstall the one you have
and download the trial of 7.8 first to see if it works for you
www.nero.com

I say theoretically, because people are complaining about that one too.

I dont understand why they are complaining about nero..

its vista that is breaking everything.

Try the dvd recording thing that is built into vista itself..

it may work for you.. some say its horrid.. and i believe them

Eric,

Ignore the response that says you have to purchase Nero and that "Vista is breaking
everything". That is both unhelpful and incorrect.

I just installed a DVD burner that included the same version of Nero as you have. You
need the latest version of "Nero 7 Essentials" to run your burner under Vista. It
sounds like you updated version 6, which will not work.

The new version is free to people like you and me who have purchased a burner that
includes an older OEM version of Nero. Here are the instructions that I received
from Nero support a few days ago:

"Download the Nero 7 Essentials update from our website. What you are downloading is
the Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced Trial version:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-demo.php.
The trial is the full version, the only difference is that it expires at the end of
the month. During the installation of the trial version, delete the demo serial
number and type in the Nero 7 Essentials serial number. That will unlock the demo and
make it an Essentials version."

Be sure to uninstall Nero 6 completely before installing version 7. If you need help
finding the serial number of your OEM version, there is a page at the Nero site that
explains where to find it.

Following their instructions, Nero 7 installed properly and my new burner runs
perfectly with all types of media in Vista Home Basic.

I have the same problem. I bought a new DVDRW with Nero 6 express and InCD
included, but it doesn't work on Vista. Windows Vista detects it's an
incompatible program and so I can't install it and so I can't know the
serial.
Where I can find the serial of that product if I can't install it? Do you
know the file name in Nero CD, where the serial is stored?

Bill,

The page at Nero is here:
http://www.nero.com//enu/FAQ_Serial_Number_Where_To_Find_1.html

However, it doesn't discuss the case where you can't install at all. You have two
choices:

1.) Start the installation using your OEM disk on a non-Vista PC and copy the number
when it appears on the installation screen. Then cancel or uninstall Nero.

2.) E-mail Nero customer service and explain the situation
([email protected]). They will send you a number, but it may take a few
days before they respond. If you are not in the US, you will have to locate the
appropriate address on their Support pages.

Hi There
Could you please help me on how to uninstall Nero Ver.6. My OS is Vista home
premium edition, and i've Nero 6 demo. Every time I try to uninstall it an
error message appears
"Nero Burning ROM is currently using files that need to be updated. Please
close Nero Burning ROM and start the setup again."
your fastest reply will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

I've found "Your Uninstaller" a top program for removing broken installs &
cleaning up the Registry.
It's not free, but there is a 35 day trial.

I've given up with Nero software on Vista.

I've no idea why, it's working fine for me. You do know that only the
latest version is Vista compatible, don't you? Earlier versions may
cause problems.

If you have Nero 7 you can upgrade to the latest for free, there's a
download on their website.
