Nero and SP2

C

Charles May

After installing SP2 and upgrading to Nero 6.3.1.20 I can no longer run
Nero.exe The system reboots and returns with a system error. dumpchk shows
the problem to be iaStor.sys. My Hard Disks are set up SATA Raid0.

I tried an older version of iaStor.sys which kept my system from booting
(continually rebooting even in safe mode)

I booted from CD and restored to the original ioStor.sys file and got back
up and running but Nero still reboots my machine when I try to execute it.

Anyone have any ideas on what to try next as I'm at a loss.

Thanks

Charlie

When you have trouble with an application, always go to that
application's website. Nero needs an update patch to work with SP2. Get
it from their site (www.nero.com). It fixes the issue.

6.3.1.20 is the SP2 Fix Update (Nero's current version)

I have latest Nero 6 too
I'd suggest you uninstall Nero, then perform a full maintenance of your
computer (by running updated antivirus, ad-aware, spybot S&D, hard disk
defragment, clear temp files). Next, re-install latest Nero 6.3.1.20
I really hope this helps

No - As I said in my answer to the OP, you don't need to uninstall Nero.
Just download and install the patch. I have Nero 6 on three machines
here and the patch takes care of the issue beautifully.

Except you MISSED the fact that Mr. May stated in the OP, that he installed this patch, (and still has the issue), then you again missed the fact that he stated what was the latest patch!!!! Follow up by reading posts comprehensively, you bint!

OK, Al. I'm thrilled to meet a man who never makes a mistake and who
uses language so elegantly. Yes, I didn't realize that the OP had the
latest version. Yes, I didn't have any of the Windows boxen on so
didn't look at the version numbers on my Nero installations. Oh my, I
made a mistake. So did you. PLONK.

You thinned skinned bint!

It is one thing to post one time making this mistake, but totally another when corresponding again by posting the same advice, as if you didn't read it, i.e. you READ AND REACT!

Are you related to Carey Frisch?

on their upgrade page it states you need to download all six upgrades if you
have nero 6 ultra edition
I am lost because they are all huge. Do I need all of them and also how do
you install each one?

thanks

It depends on what applications you expect to use. I have running packs 1 &
2 only, I find others unnecessaries. You should to install them in the order
that they are offered.

Ron,
I pretty regularly do these things you suggested but I did make sure all
three were updated and rescanned after un-installing nero. I also went to
trend micro and did an online scan just in case. Same problem, so I repeated
it and then went in and removed all keys pertaining to Ahead and Nero from
the registry. Still the same problem after re-install. I cleared the Auto
Restart setting and the BSOD displays Bad_Pool_Header which I have no clue
what it is telling me.

I have a bad feeling it is my SATA driver since iaStor.sys is involved or at
least that is what the minidump file is showing. I just don't know why. I
checked for an updated driver from the MB mfg but there isn't one so I guess
I'll just have to wait it out and see what happens. I can always burn on my
other system which I haven't upgraded to SP2 yet.

Oh yea, I also re-downloaded the nero install just in case there was a
problem with what I was using.

Thanks for the suggestions

Charlie

Charles,
Glad to hear from you. Have you tried by installing Nero 6.3.1.20 before to
install SP2? One thought comes to mind is trying to scan your hard disk
with a diagnostic tool provided by your HD manufacturer and see the results.
Please post back any changes

Ron,
Thanks for your help. I found a new version of Intel Application
Accellerator which updated my iaStor.sys file from 3.5.xxxx to 4.5.xxxx.
Everything is working now. In case anyone else runs into this problem, below
is the link to the new IAA installer.

BTW, I did find a Drive Utility on Seagates site but found no errors on
either drive. Thanks for the suggestion though it was definately overlooked
but worth a shot.

Charles,
Glad to hear good news. I'd never thought that new version of Intel App
Accelerator would do the trick. Yes, the results you've got on your own will
help anyone else with this problem.
Good day!

Charlie et al,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post the fix to
this. I searched all over the place to find a fix and literally
wasted hours at work trying to find this fix. I would get an
immediate BSOD (Bad pool caller) when trying to run Nero. I'm REALLY
surprised that Ahead/Nero didn't add this problem to their FAQs on
their site. Anyway, thanks for making my morning!

Skully
