Needing a file for XP home edition.

I'm having trouble with my XP, Home Edition, computer.

It tells me that I am missing file ' ntoskrnl.exe '

I put my XP (upgrade) Original CD in my 98SE CDRom and searched for the
file but it couldn't find it.

I made a 6 piece set of boot up floppies for the Microsoft site and
have tried to re-install the XP program but, when I get through, at the
point where I am instucted to 'hit any key', nothing happens.

Also, using the set of boot-up floppies, I have tried to format another
partition and then install the program. This, too, did not provide the
desired results.

Since I have VERY little knowledge of computers, I would appreciate it
if someone could tell me where I could obtain this file ( '
ntoskrnl.exe ' ) and also, in terms that a dummy can understand :-),
how would I integrate the file back into my system.

You help will be appreciated.

Lewis.
