Need XP patch to make HP 712C printer work

Surprise, surprise. Upon changing from Windows 98 to XP, my HP DeskJet 712C printer no longer works with Internet Explorer or Eudora. Even with the latest HP driver for the 712C, Windows XP will not allow the printer to function. I've seen posts in other forums from numerous other users complaining of the same problem. One hope was that earlier generation HP drivers, such as 690C or 710C, might solve the problem. I tried them all, and they all failed. Since Microsoft has done something with Windows XP to cause the failure, it's up to Microsoft to provide a downloadable patch. This is a request for such a patch, and for support from other HP DeskJet printer users to get Microsoft to do it! Please advise.

You should contact HP.
Regardless of what you think, it is up to the hardware manufacturer to
make the hardware function with Windows XP...if they desire to at all.
Some older hardware must be replaced if certain features are desired.
Did you try this:

Check in HP forums for the solution.
If it works for some and not others, what is the difference in your
systems?
Have you tried a Clean Installation?

Er, why should it be up to *MICROSOFT* to provide support and updates for a
*HEWLETT PACKARD* printer?!

Microsoft has done nothing with XP to cause anything - the issue is with HP
and the fact they have chosen not to provide an XP driver for that
particular model.

*Do* engage brain before putting fingers to keys....

I used my old HP 722C with XP for a while with nothing more than the generic
drivers in XP, since HP doesn't have XP drivers for it (it's basically the
same printer as the 712C, AFAIK). Try deleting the printer, rebooting, and
just letting XP install what it has.

One workaround was to use the Win2000 driver. Try that. If no luck, looks as
if you might have to go shopping. ;)
