Windows XP crashed
Mising file "vgasys.fon"
I have a blank administrator password
When I try to use recovery council it asks for the admiistrator password
There is no administrator password
I cannot start in safe mode because vgasys.fon file is missing
Is there any way I can get to regedit to make the necessary change to bypass
the administrator password requirement?

I'm confused. if password is blank ie no password. then just press enter when
at password prompt.

Yes it was confusing. I've tried to clean up the details:

Windows XP crashed
I cannot start in safe mode because vgasys.fon file is missing
I boot from recovery CD to try and repair
It goes through the first several steps until I get to the screen that wants
me to type in "r" for recovery counsel.
It asks for an administrator password.
There is no administrator password. I have a blank administrator password
So I hit enter.
It tells me it's an invalid password.
That happens three times and then the whole process starts over.
What I need is how to bypass the administrator password question.
I've been through this 25 times or so.

Yes this is confusing. I'm beginning to wonder if I have the wrong recovery
CD. (even though it's the one shipped with the computer.)
Gateway told me that my model does not have an administrator password, so
why does the recovery CD ask for it?

Why do you say your Administrator account has no password?
Obviously, it does. Did you ever login in as "Administrator" and set a
password?

Administrator account is not to be confused with an account with
'administrator'
privileges.

can you just copy vgasys.fon to c:\windows\fonts directory?
do you have access to another computer to get a copy of file?
