i just got a new comp and it came w/ a cd to reinstall
windows xp. so i installed it on one of my computers, but
now i have to activate it, and for some reason i cant.
the only option that i have now is to uninstall windows
xp. that sounds easy, but, i cant log onto my sn. so my
question is, how do i uninstall windows xp with out
logging on? is it even possible? will i have to spend
money? if so how much approx.? well it would be great if
someone emailed me to tell me how.

Hi, Greg.

One copy of WinXP is licensed to ONE computer. Same as always, but now MS
has figured out how to use Activation to enforce it.

OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) buy WinXP in bulk from MS to install
on their products. These OEM versions of WinXP typically are locked to that
one computer and can't be moved to a different machine - even if removed
from the original. But OEM contracts can vary; which one do you have?
Dell? HP? Local computer assembler?

Yep, you need to spend money. Buy a full copy of WinXP, insert the CD-ROM
into that "one of my computers", boot from the CD and follow the prompts.
No need to uninstall; just let WinXP Setup repartition and format the HD for
you. If there are any data or other files on that computer that you want to
save, be sure you have a good backup (or copy) first.
